STRONG ARM ROBBERY – ARRESTS – C12-185037
On Thursday, September 13, 2012 at approximately 8:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 600 block of Main Street regarding the report of an assault and an injured male.
 
The investigation revealed two males' ages 37 and 30 were walking in the area when they were confronted by three males who began physically assaulting the 37 year old victim in an attempt to steal his case of beer. The 30 year old victim retrieved the case of beer and attempted to run away.
 
He was pursued by the trio, knocked to the ground and severely assaulted about the body. The suspects fled.  The 37 year old victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. The 30 year old victim sustained serious upper body injuries and was conveyed to hospital in critical condition.
 
With the assistance of witnesses police quickly arrested the three suspects in the area a short time later. They were charged as follows:
 
Robert CAINE, 27 years of Winnipeg:
  • Robbery with Violence x 2
  • Aggravated Assault
 Ryan James EDEL, 34 years of Winnipeg:
  • Robbery with Violence x 2
  • Aggravated Assault
 Andre Collins MITCHELL, 41 years of Winnipeg:
  • Robbery with Violence x 2
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Breach of Probation x 3
All three males were detained in custody.
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION C12-184532
On Friday, September 12, 2012 at approximately 5:00 a.m. emergency personnel responded to a working fire in the 400 block of Garlies Street.
 
A garage at this location was totally consumed by fire and two vehicles inside the structure were damaged. Several neighbouring garages sustained damage as a result of fire. There were no injuries.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
Residential Break and Enter Arrest C12-145932
Between July 25 -27, 2012, three homes on Inkster Boulevard were broken into and property was stolen. The reports were investigated by the District Three Crime Unit and with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit, fingerprint and DNA evidence was used to identify a suspect and a Warrant for Arrest was obtained.
 
On September 13, 2012 members of the District Three Crime Unit arrested Nicholas Paul RICHARD, 22 years of Manitoba.
 
He was subsequently charged with:
  • Break, Enter, Theft x 2
  • Break and Enter with Intent
  • Breach of Recognizance x 2
RICHARD remains in custody.
 
 
PUBLIC ADVISORY
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to advise members of the public to avoid leaving valuables in plain view when parking their vehicles.
 
In many instances garage door openers, electronic equipment such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS), laptop computers or satellite radio receivers are left in plain view and the vehicle is entered to steal them.
 
Please consider the following:
 
  • Park in well-lit areas and lock your vehicle at all times
  • Do not leave garage door openers in your vehicle
  • Do not leave GPS or satellite radio devices attached to your windshield or dashboards
  • Do not leave lap top computers or other valuables inside your vehicle.
