GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS R12-74097
On September 21, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a resident located in the 400 block of Burrows Avenue.
 
As a result, a large multi-stage marihuana grow operation was located within the residence. The operation consisted of the following:
 
812 Marihuana Plants – estimated street value $909,440.00
 
176 grams Marihuana – estimated street value $1760.00
 
Grow Operation Equipment – valued at $7500.00
 
Canadian currency - $580.00
 
Officers located and arrested a 47 year old male and 45 year old female. They are facing the following charges: Production Cannabis Marihuana, Possess for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possess Proceeds of Crime.
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING C12-191338
On September 21, 2012, at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Langside Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located and identified a 20 year old male who had sustained injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was conveyed from the scene initially in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.
 
Limited information was provided, however it was determined that the victim had been walking in the area of Sargent Avenue and Langside Street at approximately 1:00 a.m. when he was confronted by two unknown males. After a brief conversation, one of the males produced a knife and stabbed the victim to the upper body.
 
No arrests have been made at this time.
 
 
THEFT FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE – ARREST C12-19160
On September 21, 2012, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Officers, including WPS Cadet Members responded to the area of the 200 block of Garry Street regarding a vehicle break-in.
 
Prior to police arrival, a male suspect was observed to smash the window of a parked car, climb in, and remove an electronic device and other personal items before fleeing the area.
 
Observant WPS Cadets located the suspect in the area and notified police members. The suspect was taken into custody near the 100 block of Smith Street and found to be in possession of break-in tools and stolen property.
 
While in police custody, the suspect became verbally aggressive and threatened two officers.
 
Neal BAPTISTE, 35 years has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement: Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Mischief Under $5000.00, Possession Break-in Instruments, Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 2 and Breach Probation.
 
He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.  
 
  
MALE SHOT C12-191466
On September 22, 2012, at approximately 6:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the 400 block of Maryland Street due to reports of a male being shot.   
 
An adult male was located and found to be suffering from injuries consistent with being shot. He was conveyed from the scene in unstable condition. 
 
The investigation is in its early stages and limited information is available at this time.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate.
