BODY LOCATED - UPDATE C12-176500
As previously released, on September 2, 2012, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Burrows Avenue and Main Street regarding suspicious circumstances.
 
Attending officers confirmed that a body had been located. As a result, members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continue to investigate.
 
Due to the on-going investigation, officers and cadets remain in the area.
 
Members of the WPS Forensic Identification Section were also notified and attended the scene. 
 
An autopsy is pending and no further details will be provided at this time.
 
 
UPDATE - FINANCIAL INSTITUTION ROBBERY - ARREST C12-175662
As previously released, on August 30, 2012, at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers responded to a financial institution (bank) located in the 800 block of Empress Street regarding a robbery that just occurred.
 
Investigators determined that a lone male suspect entered the bank and approached one of the tellers. It was at this time the suspect demanded cash while indicating that he was in possession of a weapon.
 
The teller feared for her safety and complied with the suspect's demand. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
On September 1, 2012, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a male suspect attended to a financial institution (bank) located in the 2200 block of McPhillips Street. Once inside, the suspect approached a teller and demanded cash while indicating that he was armed. Money was obtained and the suspect fled the area. No injuries were reported.
 
Due to the efforts of the Major Crimes Unit and members of the Forensic Identification Section, the suspect was identified.
 
On September 2, 2012, at approximately 8:35 p.m., officers located the male suspect at a residence in the downtown area of the city. He was arrested and taken into custody.
 
Geoffrey Wayne BENNETT, 31 years has been charged with Robbery x 2 due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.  
 
 
UPDATE - STABBING INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-175893
As previously released, on September 1, 2012, at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a stabbing incident in the area of Tylehurst Street and Portage Avenue.
 
The investigation revealed that two 20 year old males had been travelling on a city transit bus eastbound on Portage Avenue. A short time later, a third male, now identified as a 21 year old, attended and approached the two males already on the bus.
 
It was at this time an altercation erupted between the 21 year old and one of the 20 year old males. Both males produced knives and both sustained injuries. During the incident, the second 20 year old male attempted to intervene at which time all involved parties fled the bus.
 
Police were notified and eventually located the injured 20 year old male at a nearby residence.
 
It has been determined that both males are known to one another and the dispute appears to be on-going.
 
The 20 year old male is in stable condition and facing charges.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit.
 
On September 2, 2012, the 21 year old male suspect turned himself in to police. He is facing the following charges: Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-176943
On September 3, 2012, at approximately 2:20 a.m., patrolling officers observed an assault in progress involving two females in the area of Sargent Avenue and Victor Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 36 year old female, in an unprovoked attack assaulted a 34 year old female. While the victim attempted to get up as a result of the assault, the suspect produced a knife and further assaulted the victim.
 
Division 11Uniform Patrol members arrested and took custody of the 36 year old female. The victim is in stable condition.
 
The 36 year old female is facing the following charges: Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Breach of Probation.
 
She was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
