FIRE INVESTIGATION   C12-180696
On Saturday, September 8, 2012 at approximately 2:55 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire in the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue.
 
Fire crews arrived on scene and found a building that housed a residence and a business engaged in flames. Fire crews worked quickly to contain the fire at the business/residence location; however it spread to the two adjoining businesses.
 
An investigation revealed that the fire started at the rear of the building which quickly spread to the adjoining businesses.
 
All occupants of the building vacated without injury.
 
Damage is estimated at approximately $1,000,000.00 dollars.
 
Due to the fire, westbound Notre Dame Avenue from Balmoral Street to Langside Street is temporarily closed.
 
Emergency personnel remain on scene.
 
Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
STABBING ARREST C12-180512
On Friday, September 7, 2012 at approximately 11:25 p.m., Winnipeg Police Members attended the area of the 500 block of Main Street regarding an injured male.
 
Attending officers located a 46 year old male with injury to his lower body consistent with being stabbed. He was conveyed to hospital in stable condition.
 
The investigation revealed that the 46 year old victim and a male known to him became involved in an altercation which escalated, and a stabbing occurred.
 
The male suspect who was still on scene when police arrived was arrested and taken into custody.
 
Gilbert Eugene LECLAIRE, 39 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with:
Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
 
LECLAIRE was detained in custody.
